ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

The Jacksonville Children's Chorus provides high-quality choral music education to children of diverse backgrounds, fostering teamwork, self-discipline, accomplishment and pride while fulfilling an important cultural need in Northeast Florida and sharing the beauty of the choral art form through artistically excellent performances. Children who join performance choirs have an opportunity to receive a high-quality music education and learn the values of teamwork and self-discipline in an organized choral setting. In their pursuit of artistic excellence, each participating child spends extensive hours per year in rehearsal and performance. Additionally The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus fills an important need in the community, rounding out cultural offerings in the region for child and adult audiences alike. Chorus singers take pride in participating in events that shape the cultural landscape.

“The kids in the red vests and blazers” have become a recognized group at major community events and celebrations, including inaugurations, City Hall Christmas parties, and for the benefit of local charities. The Chorus has sung in Holiday Pops performance of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, performed in five major operas, self-produced more than forty concerts, commissioned eleven new musical compositions and arrangements, and sung every genre of music from Bach to Bluegrass.

The Chorus has taken the stage at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, has hosted and performed with the Westminster Choir, the St. Olaf Choir, the African Children’s Choir, Grammy-winner David Holt, Broadway Baritone Leon Williams, and local university and church choirs.  Its singers have recorded, rehearsed, performed, and taken a bow for sixteen years.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving reports to the Artistic and Executive Director (AED) and attends the Development Committee meetings as needed. Together, he/she work closely with the Executive Director to sustain current fundraising initiatives and develop strategies to broaden the fundraising potential of the JCC. The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving will steward existing donors and be responsible for researching and designing individual solicitation materials that will secure funding from a variety of JCC constituencies, including parents. He/she will also be responsible for developing and implementing donor incentives packages and for cultivating, prioritizing and tracking donor prospects on an ongoing basis. The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving will help achieve JCC’s ambitious development plan to connect donors more closely to the organization, making JCC a more effective, sustainable and innovative fundraising organization. The position plays a vital role in developing sophisticated corporate and individual giving revenue strategies for the JCC that will impact its growth over the next several years.

The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving works closely with the Development Committee of the Board, the Finance Director and Artistic and Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving is responsible for four broad areas of JCC operations.

Representative tasks and duties include:

Development

  • After reviewing best practices of similar organizations, create and implement a strategic and diversified fundraising plan that will guide the organization to meet fundraising goals, maximizing opportunities around corporate, individual, foundation and public support.
  • Expand and diversify JCC’s donor base/pipeline by maintaining a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual and corporate contributions.
  • Work closely with the Board and AED to secure gifts by engaging Board, staff, and parents as part of the development/cultivation team, and arming them with the tools needed for success.
  • Assume primary responsibility for meeting the prospect identification, analysis and research needs related to a given set of individual prospects, with a focus on parents, donors and friends.
  • Write narrative profiles and other briefing materials for use by executive staff and other officers and volunteers. Proofread, edit and prepare written products to ensure consistent clarity and integrity.
  • Ensure that the appropriate systems, staffing and procedures are in place to support fundraising goals including oversight of donation tracking in an eTapestry database.
  • Work closely with the Development team to ensure high-quality proposals, grants, reports, mailings, and timely acknowledgements required to support ongoing fundraising activities.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and coordination of strategic and high-impact special events to promote the JCC mission.
Organizational Support
  • Represent the JCC in a professional capacity at JCC cultivation events, as well as numerous other civic and community events and forums.
  • Establish procedures for tracking, rating, and qualifying prospects and for recording and reporting gifts.
  • Assist with the planning of cultivation events and concerts.
  • Manage and motivate volunteers assisting in special events, giving, public information, marketing, advertising, data management and membership.

CHARACTERISTICS

We seek an individual with an inspired and strategic outlook, who is committed, persuasive, and passionate about JCC. She/he must have exceptional organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to plan, set and meet goals and objectives and follow-through. The Director of Corporate and Individual Giving should have excellent customer service instincts and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to “move” an audience through compelling and articulate written and verbal communications. She/he should have an entrepreneurial and creative approach to development, as well as a genuine affinity for the mission and values of the organization including high levels of respect for others. He/she should also be very comfortable in a fast-paced environment that has experienced rapid growth and ongoing change. The overall ability to set, pursue, and attain achievable goals, regardless of obstacles and circumstances, will be a key quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate will have a minimum of 5 years professional fundraising, marketing or sales experience, including, but not limited to, individual, foundation and/or corporation solicitations; demonstrated ability to research and generate leads; excellent networking skills; deep seated interest in building the development function of a growing/learning organization; proven problem solving skills; ability to work independently and as a team player; high level of analytical and organizational skills, exceptional writing skills; detail oriented, and ability to handle multiple projects; seasoned experience with donor database management (e.g. eTapestry). The candidate must exercise initiative in a hands-on environment, be able to work well with a diverse constituency, and have a commitment to excellence and to the mission of the JCC.

Piano Accompanist

Reports to: Artistic and Executive Director
Rate: Based upon qualifications/experience

Hours: Part-time, must accommodate auditions, Thursday evening rehearsals (5:30-7:30 p.m.)
in Downtown Jacksonville, performances and meetings

MISSION: The mission of the Jacksonville Children's Chorus is to provide a high-quality
choral music education for children of diverse backgrounds, fostering teamwork, self-discipline,
accomplishment and pride while filling an important cultural need in the community and
sharing the beauty of the choral art form through artistically excellent performances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary duties of the Accompanist are to accompany
rehearsals, performances, and tours, and assist the conductor in planning the concert season and
auditioning. Other duties depending on the applicant's skills and qualifications may include
rehearsing and coaching soloists, preparing smaller groups for run-out concerts, and education
and outreach projects.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant should possess a degree in music, and have
a strong background in piano accompaniment. Organ experience desirable.
The applicant should also have knowledge of historical practices. Applicants should love
working with young singers and be able to work collaboratively with artistic and administrative staff.
